- How do I authorize Breakaway for Windows System?
To authorize Breakaway, follow these steps:
On a computer with Internet access, launch the Breakaway application.
Make sure that the Main Window is visible. If the Breakaway main window is not visible, right click on the Breakaway ICON on the taskbar and select "Open Main Window".
Right-click on the top of the main window and select "About Breakaway" from the menu.
Left-Click on the "Validate" button and enter the name and authorization code exactly as shown in the authorization email you received.
The copy and paste technique works best.
Then left-click on "Register" to authorize your Breakaway software.
- How do I access my computer's Hardware ID?
Right-click anywhere near the top of the Breakaway main window to view the menu.
On the menu, select "About Breakaway".
Left-click on the Hardware ID "Copy" button.
Left-click on "Go To Web Site".
Your web browser will display the Breakaway "More Info" page.
Click on the "Buy" button and you'll be directed to our web store.
Follow the directions, in the web store, to complete the purchase.
- What do I do if I lose my Order Number?
If you need to reauthorize Breakaway but cannot find your authorization email, please email a copy of your purchase receipt to support@claessonedwards.com
- What should I do with my media player's volume setting?
For the best sound quality, keep your media player's volume all the way up and adjust the sound level using the Breakaway control. Generally, Breakaway works best with the media player volume all the way up, so it has the full audio signal to work with. Use the Volume slider in the Breakaway window to adjust the output level.
- What should I do with my system Output Volume setting?
Turn it all the way up. Breakaway uses a high quality dither volume control algorithm, so it's safe to exclusively use the volume control in Breakaway.
- What should I do with the volume control on my speakers?
With the Breakaway volume control at maximum (0dB), set the volume control on your speakers as loud as the speakers can handle cleanly (without distortion), then leave it there and use Breakaway's control.
- What about my media player's EQ settings?
The Breakaway plug-in works in conjunction with your media player's EQ. However, since Breakaway adjusts the audio after the EQ processing, you will not hear as much effect from the EQ. Avoid boosting the bass in the player, since it may cause distortion. The bass boost in breakaway uses a special algorithm which boosts the bass without distortion.
- Can I use Breakaway when burning CDs?
The enhancements done in Breakaway apply only to "played" music, so will not carry over to "burned" music from, for example, iTunes to CD or from encoding to MP3 or AAC. We process the audio as it exits the media player. We do not have access to the audio while burning or encoding for technical reasons.
- Does Breakaway just make my music louder?
It's not that simple. Just cranking the volume up results in overdriving the bass, clipping the treble and considerable reduction in perceived quality. People know the sound of overdriven speakers, and identify this problem very quickly and immediately turn down the volume. Also, simply turning up the volume increases background noise and hiss, which can reduce intelligibility. Increases in perceived loudness are achieved differently than just turning up the overall gain. Breakaway processing achieves greater loudness, clarity and intelligibility by working with audio elements that the ear can perceive--not by a gross adjustment to the overall volume. Low levels are intelligently raised and loud signals are kept under control, all in real-time.
- What components will Breakaway install on my computer?
Breakaway will install the following components:
Breakaway Pipeline - an audio driver which will receive all audio played from your computer and pass it to Breakaway.
Breakaway Deskband - an explorer toolbar (turned off by default)
Breakaway.exe - the actual executable software.
All the components above uninstall cleanly through the uninstaller.
